Analysis of the Text «the Man of Destiny» by George...

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), a prominent playwright, was born of an impoverish middle-class family in Dublin where he attended a college. In 1876 he started working as a journalist in London. He become a socialist in 1882 and in 1884 joined the Fabian Society, an organization of petty bourgeois intellectuals. In 1887 G. B. Shaw took up writing plays, in which he criticized the vices of bourgeois society. Bernard Shaw is famous for his brilliant dialogues, full of witty paradoxes and often bitterly satirical. He was a friend of the Soviet Union which he visit in 1931. The Man of Destiny is an 1897 play by George Bernard Shaw. He depicts her as very calm and obedient, but tricky person. Knowingly the author uses reminiscential metaphor to show her character deeply: NAPOLEON: Dalila! Dalila, you have been trying your tricks on me! Napoleon is shown by Bernard Shaw as ambitious, rude and coarse person, also as a practical business-like man who makes his career at the cost of human lives. Author uses different adjectives and epithets to characterize him. For instance, â€Å"bluntly†, â€Å"haughtily†, â€Å"menacingly†, â€Å"savagely†, â€Å"with coarse familiarity†, â€Å"in a stealthy coldly furious whisper† and so on. To show Napoleon’s power, authority author uses syntactical parallelism: LADY: Only that you believe in yourself. You can fight and conquer for yourself and for nobody else. You are not afraid of your own destiny. You teach us what we all might be if we had the will and courage. Also he uses imperative mood in his replies to show his power and social position. Industrialization changed the social, political, and economic face of America’s cities. A model of the reforms that society was experiencing can be found in the nation’s school system. Progressive changes took place in schools in the forms of â€Å"change in political control of education; change in educational thought; innovations in school curriculum and other practices; justification of schooling in terms of professionalism; and the importing of scientific management into school administration† (p. 179). Loyalty in book Characters Essay Can the perfect ideal of loyalty ever be achieved? What is loyalty, how can you become loyal person? How do the people of today compare to the heroes in the stories that we read Beowulf Sir Gawin and the Green Knight and Camelot. When do you know you are a loyal person, is it something that you are born with or do you learn to become loyal? Is loyalty a valuable human characteristic?How does someone become a loyal person? In Sir Gawin he proved to be loyal when he showed up to a challenge that no normal man could ever win, but he did he went to get his chopped off he was very loyal to his word. Today if you want to become loyal you do not need to do some heroic. That is not good the word loyalty today is used to loosely. If you do something as little as going to work everyday and you are loyal. That is not loyalty that is making money so you can eat. A very good example of loyalty is serving your country at any cost, if you go to war there is a good chance that you will not come back, but you put that aside just to keep the rest of the country safe. That is the ultimate sign of loyalty when you have to face death. So I think that people of today need to make sure that a word is not used just for simple thing, but the correct thing so young people can understand what the word means. Can the perfect ideal of loyalty ever be achieved? In our times I think that loyalty is almost never achieved, why do I think this? The people of today dont know the proper terminology of a word. Another reason that I think this people in todays society dont care if they are considered loyal or not. In the days of Beowulf the only reason for living was to be a loyal person even if it meant death. In this story if you were not a loyal person you had no reason to live people would not think of you as a person but as that men who is not loyal to anyone. For this reason people were always trying to be loyal cause they knew what would happen if they were not they might even have to face death. If we thought like this our country would be a better place, even the president of the united states is not a loyal person, he lied to the whole country he did not care if he was considered to be a person that was not loyal. See even the man who runs a country can get away with not being loyal. For all of these reasons I believe that known one in our times can even consider that they are going to be loyal to anyone not even to there selfs. What is loyalty, is it something that you are born with? I think that people learn to be loyal to each other, but they do not do a good job of it they act a certain way but deep down in side they dont like to kiss another persons butt so they are not being loyal, not even to there selfs. What is loyalty it is a characteristic that shows how much you will do to help someone else you rarely do it to benefit yourself. You will give up anything to serve another person even if you dont know them like the national guard they are always going into disaster zones to help people, giving the people that need help what ever they want. That is being loyal to your country. How do we as a society compare to the people in Beowulf and Sir Gawin? In no opinion we cant even come close to them.
